his sculpture is a one tenth scale model
of the Corythosaurus (pronounced ko-rith-o-saw-rus) replica located in
Riverside Park. The Corythosaurus in Riverside Park received a fresh
coat of paint (several coats and colors actually) in April 1991.
The restoration project was sponsored by the Friends of Riverside Park
and Zoo (FORPAZ) with funding by the ARCO Foundation. Fiberglas Forms
provided personnel for making necessary repairs to the Fiberglas
statue.
The Corythosaurus, which means "helmeted reptile," is a member of the
hadrosaurs (duck-billed dinosaurs) and lived feet in length. Remains
have been found in the northwestern part of North America.
The nine or ten dinosaurs of the exhibit, riding on trailer-trucks,
toured 100 United States cities during 1966, 1967, and 1968. An
estimated 35 million people viewed the collection during the tour. The
exhibit visited Independence September 6, 1966. The Corythosaurus was
donated to Riverside Park by Atlantic Richfield and arrived in 1970.
